G-ma gives hope to pack-rat crafters everywhere, myself included, by finishing a ‘blanket’ she started when I was 4 years old. Awesome! She began crocheting it while she and G-pa where on their boat, The Mamita, the setting for some of my fondest and most vivid childhood memories. They got off the boat and the project got stashed away for safe keeping while G-ma got on with thirty-four years of living. Now she’s in her condo and going through her boxes, so she decided to finish the project as a ‘lap throw’ for her now-38 year old grandaughter. I love it. I’m wearing it as a cape as I type this. Not to be too syrupy-sweet, but I feel very lucky to have blankets made by both my Grandma and my Omi; they’re like big, warm grandmotherly hugs, and I get to keep them forever.
